Jim Henson’s Workshop
Yesterday we spent part of the afternoon at a traveling exhibit featuring Jim Henson’s many creations. It is absolutely impossible to be in the same room as a muppet and not smile! I hadn’t watched scenes from Sesame Street or Fraggle Rock since I was a kid, but I found myself laughing and loving those creatures all over again.
More than anything else, I think I’m realizing that Jim Henson was a brilliant man with an incredible imagination. As a kid, you watch the puppets on TV, but never think about the creative process behind them. Seeing the pages of his doodles and drawings was fantastic. It’s too bad he’s not here to continue to share his gift with the world. I’m sure he would’ve only gotten better with time.
I was impressed with Henson’s sense of responsibility. He saw television as a way to brighten the lives of children and adults alike. He was putting out quality material, never sacrificing content. He was an incredible man, and I can’t wait to share him with my kids one day.
